Collection on the history of contortion, including correspondence, photographs, drawings, posters, clippings, and other materials. Pertains to performers of circus related contortion acts (primarily early to mid-twentieth century). Letters to Kattenberg are primarily from contortionists describing their lives and giving reminiscences about performers. Most contortionists are American, though some are foreign performers.

Contortion is a form of physical display involving dramatic bending and flexing of the human body. It is often part of acrobatics and circus acts. Burns M. Kattenberg (1901 September 20 - 1974 April) was a collector of contortion materials. He was not a contortionist himself, but a fan.
